Focus and Scope

The Journal of Bioresources and Environmental Sciences (JBES) publishes rigorously reviewed research that advances scientific understanding of the production, utilization, and conversion of bioresources and examines the environmental and human-health implications associated with these activities. The journal emphasizes interdisciplinary studies that link bioresource science, environmental processes, exposure pathways, risk characterization, and sustainable management strategies. Major subjects of this journal are as follows:

Bioresources

  • biomass production, characterization, utilization, and valorization;
  • biochemical and genetic enhancement of bioresources;
  • the bioconversion of agricultural, forestry, and municipal residues into bioproducts, biopolymers, and biomaterials.

Environmental Sciences

  • fate, transport, and transformation of emerging and legacy contaminants;
  • environmental exposure and ecological or health risk outcomes;
  • waste treatment and resource recovery technologies;
  • climate-change mitigation and adaptation;
  • carbon cycling and carbon-management approaches including CCUS;
  • life-cycle assessment and sustainability evaluation;
  • environmental remediation and electrochemical treatment processes;
  • environmental biotechnology;
  • environmental monitoring;
  • governance and socio-economic dimensions of sustainability.

Priority is given to studies that demonstrate methodological rigor, quantitative evidence, and clear environmental or health relevance at local, regional, or global scales. JBES particularly encourages submissions that integrate experimental, analytical, and modeling approaches to support science-based decision-making, sustainable resource utilization, and improved environmental quality.

Note

Articles with the following topics are recommended to be submitted in our sister journal, International Journal of Renewable Energy Development (IJRED)
• Thermochemical conversion of biomass (combustion, pyrolysis, gasification, catalysis)
• Bioenergy and Biofuels (liquid and gaseous biofuels production, modeling and economics, the net energy efficiency of bioenergy systems, waste-to-energy)

Peer Review Process / Policy

The JBES journal is an international journal published by Center of Biomass and Renewable Energy (C-BIORE), Diponegoro University. The research article submitted to this online journal will be peer-reviewed.

The practice of peer review is to ensure that only good science is published. It is an objective process at the heart of good scholarly publishing and is carried out by all reputable scientific journals. Our referees play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of JBES and all manuscripts are peer-reviewed following the procedure outlined below.

Initial manuscript evaluation

The Editor first evaluates all manuscripts. Manuscripts rejected at this stage are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, have poor grammar or English language, or are outside the aims and scope of the journal. Those that meet the minimum criteria are normally passed on to at least 2 experts for review.

Type of Peer Review

Journal of Bioresources and Environmental Sciences employs single-blind reviewing, where the referees remain anonymous throughout the process. Referees are assigned to the paper according to their expertise, and our database is constantly being updated.

Referee reports

Referees are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript: - Is original - Is methodologically sound - Follows appropriate ethical guidelines - Has results that are clearly presented and support the conclusions - Correctly references previous relevant work. Language correction is not part of the peer review process, but referees may, if so wish, suggest corrections to the manuscript.

Final report

A final decision to accept or reject the manuscript will be sent to the author along with any recommendations made by the referees and may include verbatim comments by the referees.

Editor’s Decision is final

Referees advise the editor, who is responsible for the final decision to accept or reject the article.

CrossMark Applying on JBES

Crossmark

Applying the CrossMark icon is a commitment by the Journal of Bioresources and Environmental Sciences to maintain the content published and alert readers to changes if and when they occur.

What is Crossmark?

CrossMark, a multi-publisher initiative from CrossRef, provides a standard way for readers to locate the authoritative version of a document.  Journal of Bioresources and Environmental Sciences recognizes the importance of the integrity and completeness of the scholarly record to researchers and librarians and attaches the highest importance to maintaining trust in the authority of its electronic archive. Clicking on the CrossMark icon will inform the reader of the current status of a document and may also provide additional publication record information about the document.
